Sri Lankan Tea Brand Dilmah's India Expansion: $15 mn investment, luxury tea lounges, and an expansive India growth plan

Dilmah plans a significant expansion in India with a $1 million investment. The company is launching a premium tea collection called Thambapanni for the Indian market. Dilmah will enter luxury hospitality and direct-to-consumer channels, with tea lounges planned. A new manufacturing plant in Coimbatore will support export operations starting in 2028. India is expected to become a top 10 global market for Dilmah within a decade.

Sri Lankan tea major Dilmah is stepping up its ambitions in India with a $1 million investment over the last 14 months to build a premium, India-specific tea business, targeting a position among its top 10 global markets within the next decade.

The company is entering India’s luxury tea segment with Thambapanni, a premium collection created exclusively for the market using tea, herbs and spices sourced from 26 Indian growers and packed in India.

“We are entering first into luxury hospitality, secondly through direct-to-consumer, q-commerce and e-commerce, and eventually through our own Dilmah Urban Estate tea lounges,” said Dilhan C. Fernando, Chairman, Dilmah.
